Mono-laurate's antiviral mechanism involves lauric acid causing viral membrane protein to leak out, and monolaurate being inserted into membranes of viruses. Both of these lead to reduced or lost replication. It is common knowledge that monoglyceride damages the membrane of the virus, inhibiting its ability to multiply.
