Pressure causes WTe2's magnetoresistance to decrease. At 10.5 GPa or more, magnetoresistance is lost and material becomes a superconductor. Below 6.5 K, superconducting occurs at 13.0 GPa.
Also, WTe2 that are two and three layers thick have been identified as polar metals. According to the theory of electropolarization with metallic behavior, polarization occurs due to vertical charges being transferred between layers. Interlayer sliding is another reason.
