This hexagonal crystal has metallic luster, hardness and a similar appearance to diamonds. Tungsten carbide is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity. Tungsten carbide can't be dissolve in water or hydrochloric and sulfuric acids. However, it is easily soluble and can be broken down in hydrofluoric and nitric acids. Tungsten carbide in its pure form is very fragile. However, if there are small amounts of cobalt, titanium and other metals, it can be made less brittle. Tungsten carbide can be used to cut steel. To increase its anti-knock capability, it is sometimes combined with titanium carbide (or tantalum) or their mix. Tungsten carbide has a chemical stability. Tungsten powder is used for cemented carbide production.

produced?
Utilizing metal tungsten or carbon as raw material, tungsten powder of an average particle size between 3 and 5 mm is mixed dry with a ballmill, then press-molded and put into a graphite resist furnace. Or, you can heat it to 14001700 using an induction furnace. Preferably 15501650. W2C is produced in the hydrogen stream and reacts at high temperatures to create WC. Or, first, tungsten Hexacarbonyl can be thermally broken down at between 650 to 1000 degC in CO, to create tungsten dust, then it is reacted at 1150 degC with carbon monoxide to form WC. W2C is possible at higher temperatures than these.

Hydrogenated tungsten trioxide (WO3) is then reduced to make tungsten dust. The average particle size for tungsten is 35mm. Next, press-form the mixture of tungsten and carbon black under pressure of approximately 1t/cm2. You will need to heat the block of pressurized material in a graphite pan (or crucible) at about 14001700, or more preferably 15501650 in hydrogen stream. This can be done using pure hydrogen and a low dew point (preferably -35) or in an induction electric furnace. Carburizing will give you WC. Since W2C can be generated from the start of the process, the reaction will begin around the tungsten pieces. Because the reaction temperature is very low, the incomplete reaction (using pure hydrogen with a dew point of -35) and carburizing will produce WC. The reaction must then be heated to the high temperatures mentioned above. The raw tungsten particle size should determine the temperature. A reaction can be initiated at temperatures between 1550-1650degC for large particles that have an average size of 150 mm.

Tungsten Carbide WC Powder:
Tungsten caride is used extensively in the manufacture of high-speed cutting tools and furnace structural materials. This is used in the manufacture of cutting tools, wear resistant parts, meltingcrucibles for metallics like cobalt, copper and bismuth and wear-resistant semiconductor film.
Tungsten carbide is used to make super-hard tools.
Tungsten carbide can be combined with different carbides to create a strong solution. WC-TiC-Co has been used extensively to create cemented carbide tools.
Tungsten carbide can be added to NbC.C and TaC.C ternary-system carbides as an additive. This will reduce the sintering temperature while maintaining excellent performance. It is also used in aerospace.
Tungsten carbide or (WC) can also be made by mixing tungsten hydride (WO3) with graphite at high temperatures of 1400-1600. You can make dense ceramic products by either hot pressing or hot isostatically pressing sintering.
Tungsten caride (WC), powder, can also be used in the production of high-performance nano-crystalline, superfine, horniness alloys and petrochemical cracking catalysts.
