-- This is how the lyrics appear on the original sheet music. 'Smile' was the theme music for Charlie Chaplin's last silent picture 'Modern Times' in 1936. It became officially 'Smile' when John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons added lyrics to Chaplin's composition in 1954. That year, Nat "King"Cole recorded 'Smile' and it quickly became a hit and American standard. --
